How To Commission A Landscape Painting
As an intuitive semi abstract landscape painter, I create expressive paintings inspired by the landscapes I have roamed, but led by instinct and the movement of the paint rather than exact detail. When you commission a piece, you are entrusting me with full creative control to interpret the place that inspires you in my own style, focusing on colour, mood, and atmosphere rather than a literal scene.
We’ll discuss colours, feeling, and the places that matter to you, but the final painting will be guided by my intuitive process, resulting in a unique artwork made especially for you.
The Commission Process
Initial Consultation
We’ll start with an informal consultation to discuss your ideas, inspiration, size, colour palette. This can be via email or in person at my studio, where you can view my original works and finishes in real life.
Booking & Deposit
Once you’re happy to go ahead, a 20% non refundable deposit secures your booking and covers some initial costs, including the bespoke preparation of your painting panel.
Creation & Updates
Most commissions take 6–8 weeks, as each board is made specifically for your painting.
You’ll receive regular email updates from the moment the boards are ordered, including progress photos as your painting develops, so you can enjoy the journey and feel involved every step of the way.
Completion & Final Payment
When your painting is finished, I’ll send final images for approval. Once you’re completely happy, the remaining balance is due. I offer the opportunity to spread the cost of your commission over three monthly payments. If you pay over three monthly instalment payments your work will be ready after the final payment has cleared.
Finishing Touches & Delivery
• Your artwork will be unframed, with the option of painted panelled edges for a contemporary, ready to hang finish.
• Each piece is sealed with Winsor & Newton archival satin varnish for long lasting protection.
• Wooden board options have a poplar plywood surface with a birch plywood subframe that is sustainably sourced and PEFC and FSC certified. The boards are warp free and boards over 60cm square size come with an aluminium extrusion discretely hidden on the reverse of the panel.
• Aluwood panels have an aluminium surface with a poplar plywood subframe which is sustainably sourced and PEFC and FSC certified. The aluminium alloy is 6082 sheets with a medium strength and primed with a suitable metal primer offering excellent corrosion resistance. The boards are warp free and boards over 60cm square size come with an aluminium extrusion discretely hidden on the reverse of the panel. Please note if opting for a large size the metal can be weighty so you will need a sound structural wall to hang your painting.
• Collection from the studio is welcome or I can deliver depending on your location and if the size of your painting is under 80cm sq (to be discussed at consultation).
• Nationwide UK postage is available free of charge for items under 60cm square, anything over this size will need delivery by courier and will incur additional costs. You will be informed of all costs prior to confirming your commission.
